Over two lively Tuesday evenings (October 7th and 14th), Norwich Pétanque Club had the pleasure of welcoming twelve spirited members of the 15th Norwich Air Scouts for a pair of exciting training sessions at the Norwich Pétanque club.

Led by Norwich club coach Mark Bell and supported by assistant coaches-in-training from the Bob Carter Centre Pétanque club Simon Doble and John Monk (on the 7th), and Nigel Sayer and Michael Wray (on the 14th), the sessions introduced the Scouts to the art and tactics of pétanque. From mastering the mechanics of a solid boule throw to learning when to point and when to shoot, each Scout was immersed in the key fundamentals of the sport.
Throughout the sessions, safety was a top priority. The Scouts not only practiced their throwing skills but also learned the essential rules and strategies that shape good pétanque play. And it wasn’t all drills and technique—natural competition soon emerged, with enthusiastic energy and teamwork on full display.
Between the two sessions, the Scouts were challenged to design safety posters for the club hut. Their creativity and understanding of the game's safety principles were impressive, and we look forward to showcasing their artwork soon.

As a result of their dedication and participation, all twelve Scouts earned their Physical Recreation Badge and received certificates recognizing their achievement of the White Level PE Skills Award. Should any of them wish to continue their pétanque journey, they now have the foundation to do so.
Norwich Pétanque is proud to support youth engagement in our sport. If you're part of a local youth group and would like to arrange a future coaching session, please contact our club coach Mark Bell at Coach@norwich-petanque.co.uk.
