Our Club

The Norwich Pétanque Club is the longest established club in the Anglia Region having been formed in 1979 at the request, and with the co-operation of the Sports and Leisure department of the Norwich City Council. The Club ran for the first year at the Norman Centre in Norwich, after which it moved to The Cottage public house in Thorpe, where it has remained ever since, becoming one of the biggest in the area.

Members of the Club have been instrumental in helping new clubs to get under way in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Our players have been at the forefront in competitions at all levels and we are currently represented by five teams in the SamuelJacks Norfolk League and its associated Knockout Shield competition.

The Club stages six open competitions each year at The Cottage, as well as internal events and a number of County and Regional competitions.

We have hosted two inter-County matches at our terrain – against Leicestershire and the Chilterns – both of which were won by Norfolk.

The Club sends parties of players to other parts of the country to play, with a regular trip to the Isle of Wight.

Members of the club also take part in the Anglia Regional Qualifiers and have gone on to represent our region at the annual EPA Inter-regional Championship at Hayling Island.

We recently received some coverage in the Eastern Daily Press/Norwich Evening News for our 40th Anniversary, click here or on the image below to have a look at the story and see us on YouTube.

You Are The Club

The Norwich club committee is the best you'll come across.

Some other clubs have officers who just don't give a toss.

The reason that we give our all from New Year to December

Is obviously - we love our club and value every member.

We like to see our members enjoying every game.

We like to think our club's the best, and hope you feel the same.

So, playing at the cottage, and meeting in the pub,

Just always keep one thing in your mind - it's YOU who are THE CLUB
