Glanville Cup Brings 23 Players Together at Norwich
Norwich Pétanque Club welcomed 23 players to the terrain on the morning of Wednesday 7th October for this year’s Glanville Cup, with a friendly morning of competitive pétanque also helping to raise funds for the club.
With an odd number of players taking part, nobody wanted to sit out with a bye. Instead, the players agreed to make the format work by playing a mixture of pairs and triples, ensuring everyone was able to take part throughout the morning.
The competition was played as a mêlée, with players changing partners during the event and individual results recorded across their games. At the end of play, the top two players in the standings were paired together as the winners, with third and fourth taking the runners-up spot.
🏆 Glanville Cup Winners

Pat Howe and Nigel Sayer were crowned this year’s winners, with Audrey Glanville on hand to present them with the Derek Glanville Cup.

Brian Taylor and Fred Leake finished as runners-up after another strong morning of play.
The event also raised £74, made up of £69 from the competition and a further £5 donation.
A big thank you goes to Derek Thorndyke, Alan Moss and Brian Taylor for helping to get everything set up for the morning, and especially to Sharon Thorndyke for organising and running the competition.
Congratulations to Pat and Nigel, and thank you to all 23 players who took part and helped make the Glanville Cup another enjoyable Wednesday morning at Norwich Pétanque Club.
