Norwich Pétanque Singles Finals Bring Competition to a Close

The Norwich Pétanque Club Singles Championships, which have been played over several rounds since April, reached their conclusion on Wednesday 26 August.

A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered to cheer on the four finalists as the women’s and men’s champions were decided.

This year’s competition attracted an excellent entry, with 22 women and 34 men competing for the two titles.

In the women’s competition, Luisa D’Esposito faced Celia Young in the quarter-finals before receiving a walkover against Lesley Munday in the semi-finals. Janet Wicks progressed by playing Nicola Lobley in the quarter-finals and Elizabeth Read in the semi-finals.

The final saw Luisa produce a strong performance to defeat Janet 13–3 and become the Norwich Women’s Singles Champion.

In the men’s competition, Allen Kemp secured his place in the final by beating Gavin Seymour in the quarter-finals and Mervyn Bell in the semi-finals. Richard Jeffery reached the final after victories over Derek Thorndyke and David Riley.

The men’s final was a much closer contest, with Allen eventually overcoming Richard 13–10 to claim the Norwich Men’s Singles title.

Congratulations to Luisa and Allen on becoming our 2026 Singles Champions, and well done to Janet and Richard on reaching their respective finals.
