Norwich Petanque Club was proudly represented at the recent Anglia International Women’s Day (IWD) Pairs Qualifier, held at Diss Petanque Club, where teams competed for the chance to represent the region at the IWD Finals at Whitnash Pétanque Club on 6th June.
A total of six pairs entered the competition, playing a round-robin format consisting of five timed games (60 minutes plus two ends), making for a competitive and closely fought day of pétanque.

Norwich were represented by two pairs. Sharon Thorndyke and Liz Read delivered a strong performance, finishing in fourth place with three wins and a points difference of -7. Notably, they handed the eventual winners their only defeat of the day in a thrilling match, edging it 12–10.
Also representing Norwich was Lesley Munday, competing in her first Anglia tournament. Partnering with Judy Stringer of Sprowston Petanque Club, the pair gained valuable experience and finished in sixth place.
For the second year running, the title was claimed by Ellie Jay and Tricia Hodgkinson. Finishing as runners-up were Luisa D’Esposito and Teresa Bingham, with both pairs now set to represent the Anglia Region at the IWD Finals in June.
