Tuesday 10th June – Aylsham Recreation Ground

With clear skies and summer sunshine, the 1st Aylsham Cubs enjoyed an exciting introduction to pétanque this week, thanks to a special taster session delivered by Norwich Pétanque Club’s coach, Mark Bell.
Hosted at the Aylsham Recreation Ground, the session welcomed 13 cubs and 5 leaders, who split into three groups for a hands-on 25-minute experience of the sport. Under Mark’s expert guidance, the cubs learnt the fundamental techniques of throwing a pétanque boule, how to “point” effectively, and the impact of their throw on accuracy and success.

To finish, the young players went head-to-head in a fun team game of pétanque noughts and crosses—putting their new skills to the test and bringing out their competitive spirit in the friendliest of ways.
Mark said, “It was fantastic to see so much energy and enthusiasm from the cubs. Everyone gave it a go and picked up the techniques really quickly. Hopefully, we’ll see some of them again on our pistes in Norwich!”
We would like to thank Stuart Picton for organising the session, assisting with the coaching and for sharing these great pictures.
The Norwich Pétanque Club is looking to run regular coaching sessions for juniors and is always keen to introduce new players to the sport.
