COMPETITION UPDATE
Make a note of our next Club event, which is our Bank Holiday Money Melee on Wednesday 31st August. This is a departure from our normal Summer Melee with registration from 7pm for a 7.30pm start to play 2 timed games to win cash prizes. Entry is £2 per person, with the winner taking half of the pot and 2nd place player taking a quarter of the pot.
Remember, the more players who take part, the bigger the pot, so come and have a bit of fun and compete for money!
The quarter finals have now been completed and the full results table is attached. Congratulations to all the players who have made it through to the Semi Finals. These will be as follows:
Gents: Enzo Diprata v Mervyn Bell Brian Taylor v Mick Wicks
Ladies: Kerry Kirkbride v Jackie Knowles Janet Wicks v Lou D'Esposito
EVENT ROUNDUP
With 24 competitors this was well-attended for a mid-week tournament and we had a very close call for the winners after our 3 timed games.
Pictured are Lou D'Esposito (centre) taking 1st place with 3 wins +25, Lloyd Lewis (right) in second with 3 wins +24 and Tony D'Esposito (left) 3rd on 3 wins +21.
Several other players were close on points, so congratulations to all who took part for such a close competition.
This is one of our charity tournaments where all entry fees and raffle proceeds are donated to the nominated charity, in this case the East Anglian Children's Hospices. With 14 pairs attending we had a good turnout on a beautiful summer's afternoon for our Kath Watts pairs this year. A total of £161 was made for the charity.
The only pair to win all 4 of their games this year were Bob Urquart and Enzo Diprata (left) who were overall winners on 4 wins +31, with Keith Burgess and Glenn Harcourt (right) in 2nd place on 3 wins +23.
Our thanks to all who took part.
Robert Cleaver seems to be running away with the Summer Melee at the moment and after 17 weeks of competition is on +85. This Melee runs to the end of Sept and with 28 members having so far qualified for the main table, there is still time for other competitors to close up on the lead!
The full table is attached, but the top 5 are:
Robert Cleaver +85
Hedley Watts +45
Mervyn Bell +39
Derek Glanville +26
Robert Knowles +25
Our monthly sweepstake has attracted a few more members, so the prize money has increased slightly. If you would like to support this draw, which not only gives you the chance to win cash prizes, but raises funds for the Club, please contact Robert Cleaver at robertcleaver1949@gmail.com, or speak to Robert at the terrain on a Wednesday Clubnight.
The winners of the the past 2 months prizes are:
July: 1st Mick Wicks August: 1st Roseanne Shillitoe
2nd Lloyd Lewis 2nd Jackie Knowles
LEAGUE TEAMS
If you are a Club member who does not at present play league, have you considered taking part?
The Club enters 5 teams in the main Norfolk Summer League, as well as teams in the Wednesday morning Summer league and the Winter League that runs from November to March. It is apparent that one or two of our League teams have begun to struggle for team members this season due to a number of factors, eg age, illness, family/work commitments etc.
Playing in any of the leagues helps to develop your skills and tactics and gives you experience of playing against teams from other Clubs. If you are interested in taking part in any of these leagues please speak to the Secretary, or any other Committee member (contact details below). We will be pleased to give you more information on the teams and the different leagues. You do not need to be available for every game, every week, as reserve players are always needed for every team and all levels of player ability are welcome.
PLEASE CONSIDER TAKING PART.
