UPCOMING EVENTS

CLUB AGM

You should all now have received the notice and associated documents for the AGM on Thursday 10th November. Please let the Secretary have any nominations, proposals, items for AOB or apologies ASAP.

NEXT TOURNAMENT

We have fewer tournaments taking place over the winter, but one event that will continue is the Winter Money Melee on the first Wednesday of every month. Entry is £2 per player with registration from 7pm to allow for a 7.30pm start to allow for two games to be played.

The next Money Melee will be on Wednesday 2nd November.

EVENT ROUNDUP

With our Summer Melee now concluded and with Robert Cleaver confirmed as the winner, the final table is attached so that you can all see how you fared in the competition.

Our first Winter Money Melee took place on 5th October with 22 competitors taking part, a good turnout for what is the start of our colder winter evenings. Enzo Diprata won the tournament, with Gordon Daynes and James Kirkbride tying for 2nd place.

ISLE OF WIGHT WEEKEND

The November Cottage Pie will contain a full report of the Isle of Wight Weekend Petanque break.

Radio Norfolk's Anna having a go as part of her Treasure Quest challenge.

Were you listening to Radio Norfolk Treasure Quest on Sunday 9th October? If so you will know that our Club and the Radio Norfolk Tournament featured prominently in their broadcast, with us hosting the 2nd clue of the day.

It took quite a while for the Radio Norfolk crew to figure out the clue that lead to us, but with a little bit of help from someone who phoned in with information about our tournament they eventually arrived and after a few words about the Club and the event, the host, Anna, had to 'earn' her next clue by throwing a few petanque boules.

Radio Norfolk also spoke to us afterwards in their 'extra time' programme, following up on the origins of the Radio Norfolk Cup and about the Club, so all in all a nice bit of publicity for the club.

There are more photos and you can also download the broadcast from the Radio Norfolk website.

Returning to the tournament itself, we had 10 teams competing this year, playing 5 games over the day.

Only one team managed all 5 wins, with Mark & Mervyn Bell together with Hedley Watts recording 5 wins and +24, taking the cup and the radio prizes.

In 2nd place were Micheal Neal, Niall Warn & Scott Hoskins from Bury St Edmunds on 4 wins +8,

with 3rd place taken by Tony Benchley, Eric Whatling and Lloyd Lewis on 4 wins +2.

You can see more photos on our website.

The Norman Guest Charity Pairs this year had a very good turnout with 12 pairs competing. Ray Savage and Hedley Watts won the event on 4 wins and +16, with Robert Cleaver and Enzo Diprata in 2nd place on 3 wins and +21. Together with the proceeds from the raffle we raised £156 for the Motor Neurone Disease Research charity.

Winners Ray Savage & Hedley Watts with Martin Guest presenting the cup.

2nd place Enzo Diprata and Robert Cleaver
