EVENT ROUNDUP

We've reached the end of our 2015 Singles competition with the finals taking place at the end of September.

The all-Italian Gents game between Tony D'Esposito and Enzo Diprata resulted in a win for Enzo.

The Ladies championship this year was contested by Sue Bull and Phyllis Johnson, with Phyllis getting a well-deserved win.

Congratulations to our finalists and to all who took part in this different format for our singles competition. It has provided an ongoing interest throughout the year and some surprising results to give us our Champions for this year.

The final game in the Summer Melee brought a very late change to the top of the table, with Tony Brenchley unfortunately drawing some strong opposition in his final game affecting his points, with Ray Savage retaining his overall points difference to end up as winner of the event. The full results table is attached for you all to see where you ended up in the reckoning.

We had the highest number of players taking part in our Melee this year, with 31 members reaching the qualifying 6 game total and a further 12 members taking part at some point, plus 7 people playing as casual visitors, making a total of 50 people taking part in this competition this year. This is a fantastic level of support for this competition, so thankyou to all who have made this such a competitive event this year.

Trophies for the the Ladies and Gents Singles and the Summer Melee will be presented at the AGM in November, along with other trophies for the season.

18 pairs contested our Norman Guest tournament this year, with the usual charity raffle helping towards making a total of £199 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Mark & Mervyn Bell were overall winners on 4 wins + 25, with Enzo Diprata and Brian Taylor in 2nd place on 3 wins + 31. Martin Guest was on hand to present the trophies.

Winners Merv Bell (L), Mark Bell (R), with Martin Guest

2nd placed Brian Taylor (L) and Enzo Diprata (R)

There was an excellent turnout for the Radio Norfolk Autumn Triples this year, with 14 teams taking part in this final Summer tournament of our summer season and the only all-day tournament that we now hold. The team consisting of Tony & Lou D'Esposito and Jake Woods were the final winners on 5 wins + 41, with 2nd place going to Ian & Heather Hubbard & Hedley Watts with 5 wins and +32.

Winners: Tony D'Esposito, Lou D'Esposito, Jake Woods

2nd place: Ian Hubbard, Heather Hubbard, Hedley Watts

Diamonds contested the Plate final against The Mutton, but lost out 2-3 in a very closely contested game to finish as runners up.

CLUBNIGHT

Don't forget that even though the Summer Melee has finished Clubnight continues every Wednesday evening throughout the winter for those who want to keep in practice. Some players also meet up from 10am on a Wednesday morning. Just turn up to either (or both!) sessions and join in.

Our Christmas Cracker Melee Pairs takes place on Sunday 27th December, registration from 10am. Diary the date – it's a great way to blow away the post Christmas cobwebs!

NEW EVENT – WINTER MONEY MELEE

We are holding a new event over the winter, so for the first time this is your opportunity to take part in our WINTER MONEY MELEE.

The full details of the competition are attached, but in brief:

  • The melee will take place on the first Wednesday of the month and alternate between the morning and evening sessions, with each a stand-alone event.

  • Each melee will consist of 2 x 40 minute games.

  • The first game will be 10.30am Wednesday 4th November

  • Subsequent dates will be 7.30pm Wednesday 2nd December, 10.30am Wednesday 6th January, 7.30pm Wednesday 3rd February and 10.30am Wednesday 2nd March (registration 30 mins earlier).

  • Entry fee will be £2 per player, with the pot divided between 1st and 2nd placed players and the Club.

  • Players who do not wish to take part in the Money Melee on Clubnights are welcome to just play practice games as usual.
