Thanks to all those who attended and also contributed to the raffle. A total of £126 was raised for EACH.

Action from the Kath Watts tournament:

Roseanne & David Shillito, Lou d'Esposito & Mike Cushion

Robert Cleaver, Tony Brenchley Phyllis Johnson, Celia Young

NEXT EVENT

The Norman Guest pairs is another of our charity tournaments where all monies raised go towards Motor Neurone Disease research in memory of Norman, who was so instrumental in setting up and running the Norwich club for many years.

Diary the date – Saturday 26th September. Registration from 1pm for a 1.30pm start. Format is fixed pairs and we will be playing 4 timed games. We look forward to seeing lots of you there to help us raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

CLUB LADIES & GENTS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulations to those who qualified for the the Semi-final stage of the competition.

Gents semis: Enzo Diprata v Mike Cushion and Brian Taylor v Tony D'Esposito.

Ladies semis: Sue Bull v Kath Howe and Jackie Knowles v Phyllis Johnson .

There will be a slight delay in the Ladies games being completed through illness/injury to players, but we hope to hold both the Ladies and Gents finals either on a Wednesday Clubnight or possibly a Wednesday morning later in September. We will confirm the date for the finals as soon as the semis are completed.

SUMMER MELÉE

There has been a bit of a change at the top of the Melée league. Ray Savage had only to complete his 6 qualifying games to go right to the top of the table, taking over from Tony Brenchley, who has been in the lead ever since the start of the season. However, the gap is only 2 points, and there are still several weeks to go till the end of the season, so we have a close race coming up over the next few Wednesday evenings!

Tony D'Esposito, Lou D'Esposito and Brian Taylor complete the top five and there is still time for a few good wins to change things at the top. Check your own position on the attached sheet and if you want to keep up to date between newsletters the latest results will be on the website every week.

THE CLUB AND THE COTTAGE

Some of you may be aware of a recent article in the local press about a Bowls club who lost their green at a pub premises because so few of them used the pub itself. We have always encouraged our members to use the the Cottage whenever they attend any league, tournament or clubnight, but are aware that some members do not, even though they may use the facilities at the pub.

Although we pay for all maintenance and improvements to the terrain ourselves, we pay no rent as such for our premises and the return for The Cottage should be the business it gets from us. It costs little for a coffee or a quick drink, but helps the Club retain what is without exception the best and biggest terrain the county!
