EVENT ROUNDUP

GOLD CUP PAIRS

Despite a rather miserable afternoon 12 brave pairs contested the Gold Cup Pairs this year, with Enzo Diprata and Brian Taylor taking the Cup on 4 wins + 26 and Mark and Mervyn Bell runners up on 4 wins + 23.

Many thanks to all those who attended this event and contibuted to the raffle which was in aid of Club funds on this occasion.

Winners Brian Taylor & Enzo Diprata, with Derek Glanville

who presented the trophies

Mark & Mervn Bell with their 2nd place trophies

NEXT EVENT

Our next event is the Andre Conan Melee Pairs competition on Wednesday 1st July.  Our normal Summer Melee is suspended for that one week only.  The event is for players over 18 years of age as we are competing for bottles of wine.  (This age restriction should not be a problem for our Club members!).

We need to fit in 3 timed games, so it would help if competitors could be there for registration at 6.45pm for a strict 7pm start.

CLUB LADIES & GENTS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

THE GROUP STAGES FOR THIS EVENT NEED TO BE COMPLETED AND ALL SCORECARDS RETURNED BY 30TH JUNE WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE JUST OVER A WEEK TO GET YOUR GAMES PLAYED.  A number of scorecards have already been returned, but a significant number of games remain to be completed.

Please pick up the phone to your remaining opponents and get your games arranged for this week so your scorecards can be returned on time.

If you are unable to return scorecards to the Secretary in person, there is an envelope in the shed to leave them to be collected.  If for any reason you are unable to complete your games please advise the secretary as soon as possible. (email: hihubb@virginmedia.com or phone 01603 701023)

SUMMER MELEE

Tony Brenchley remains securely at the top of the Melee table having won every game he has played so far, sitting on +60 at this stage.  However the positions in the rest of the Melee table have changed considerably, with Tony D'Esposito now sitting in 2nd place and Enzo Diprata 3rd.  24 players have completed enough games to qualify for the reckoning, with 12 further members who have played up to 5 games, so our turnout on Clubnights has been very good this year. We are not yet halfway through the Summer season, so there is plently of time for further players to play the minimum 6 games to qualify, and for new players to join in.

The current Melee Scoresheet can be found here.

TERRAIN MAINTENENCE

You may have noticed that the edging ropes have all now been replaced on the terrain and this is thanks to Eric Whatling and the very small band of helpers who turned up to assist with preparation on the Friday before the Gold Cup Pairs so that terrain was looking its best for the tournament.

Eric needs and appreciates this help as there are always ongoing maintenance tasks to be carried out to keep the terrain in useable condition.
