Cottage Pie - February 2015
No tournaments to update this month, but some news on forthcoming events as we prepare for the new season.
QUIZ & CHILLI EVENING - Thursday 12th February 7pm
A reminder for those taking part in the Quiz & Chilli Evening that you need to be ready to start at 7pm sharp.
We will also be holding a raffle, so please bring along anything suitable on the night.
We look forward to seeing you there on the night for a bit of friendly competition!
PRE -SEASON TERRAIN TIDY – Saturday 21st March 9.30 am
Terrain manager, Eric Whatling, always needs help to get the terrain ready for the new season and this year is no exception. The gravel has become badly compacted over the winter and needs some very heavy raking. We also need to bring some of the gravel accummulated at the sides of the terrain towards the middle. There is also rubbish to be collected, weeds to be tackled and overhanging vegetation to be trimmed. All of this takes considerable time and resource.
On this occasion it would be very helpful if assistance could be provided on a staggered basis, with those able to be there at 9.30am ready to tackle some heavy raking to break up the surface, and others to follow from around 10.30am to help with the lighter raking from sides to middle. Of course there are the other maintenance jobs to muck in with, so if you have an hour to spare please turn up at any time during the morning and help (and perhaps bring any implements you feel might be useful) – it will be greatly appreciated.

PRE -SEASON TOURNAMENT – Thursday 26th March
This is always a very competitive (as well as sociable!) curtain-raiser event for our new season, where all our registered teams are competing at the one inter-Club event. Please be there for a prompt 7.30pm start. This event will be followed by our customary refreshments in the pub.
CLUB SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Those who attended our AGM and Pre-season meetings will know that we have been exploring ways of making our singles tournament more inclusive to ALL our members.
To achieve this separate Ladies and Gents tournaments will be played over the course of the season and will consist of league games to be played within a set timescale, with playoffs/semis on a knockout basis followed by the finals. The full schedule will be issued to all members towards the end of March but so you are all aware of what we are aiming for:
ALL members registered with the Club on 31st March 2015 will automatically be entered for the tournament (unless they specifically advise the Secretary they are unable to take part).
The aim is to have leagues of just 4 players, so all players are guaranteed at least 3 games.
League games can be played on any date to be agreed between the individual players within a set timescale, with results submited by a set date.
Play-offs/semi-finals will follow on dates to be agreed.
Ladies and Gents finals will both be played on a single date to be arranged.
BECAUSE OF THE NEED TO CONFIRM NUMBERS FOR THIS SINGLES TOURNAMENT PLEASE WOULD ANY MEMBER WHO IS UNABLE TO TAKE PART ADVISE HEATHER HUBBARD ASAP. (By email only please, details below. Those who do not have email please ask another member to do this for them).
